Our Chair of the Board Dr. Nesip Beki and Secretary General Serhat Küçükuygun spoke to İhlas News Agency (İHA) about the future of home care services.
Dr. Nesip Beki said that the care of older, ill and disabled people will be among the most discussed issues in the years ahead. Dr. Beki stressed that home care should be received from institutions licensed by the Ministry of Health or from units licensed as Private Employment Offices by İŞKUR, and that families should check the work documents of anyone who comes into their home. This care, Dr. Beki said, is vital for the privacy and safety of the home and the patient, and for public health.
"Finding out whether the people we let into our homes, the people we entrust our patients and our loved ones to, are authorised and competent is one of our most basic responsibilities."
Secretary General Serhat Küçükuygun said that citizens can confirm whether a care provider is authorised by calling their district health directorate, and can ask the person for their authorisation documents.
"Citizens need to know that not everyone they come across on the internet is authorised to provide these services. Being a doctor or a nurse does not, on its own, mean that a person can provide care at home."
Küçükuygun explained that home care centres operate under the management of a physician, and that the infectious disease tests, documents and diplomas of their staff are approved by the district health directorate. Noting that treatment given without a doctor and unsupervised practices pose risks, especially of infectious disease, Küçükuygun said the need for these services will grow significantly over the next 5-6 years.
